Frequently asked questions
Where is my data stored? Can you see it?
Everything you log stays on your iPhone, encrypted. There are no accounts and no servers of ours — we cannot see, recover, or reset your data. See the privacy policy.
Will my data survive when I get a new iPhone?
Yes — as long as you use Apple's standard iCloud backup or an encrypted computer backup, restoring your new phone from that backup brings your IBD Aide data with it. For extra safety you can also create a passphrase-protected backup file in Settings ▸ Backup & device migration.
I forgot my export passphrase. Can you recover the file?
No. Export files are encrypted with your passphrase and nothing else — there is no recovery mechanism, by design. Your live data in the app is unaffected; just create a new export.
How accurate are the food scan results?
Verdicts are informational estimates based on guidance from the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation and IOIBD dietary recommendations, plus your personal trigger list. Dish photo analysis is an inference about likely ingredients and can be wrong. Tolerance varies from person to person — always use your own judgment and your care team's advice.
What do the HBI / SCCAI scores mean?
They are modified, patient-reported adaptations of clinical activity indices, computed from your logs to help you spot trends and discuss them with your care team. They are not a diagnosis and can differ from your clinician's formal assessment.
Why don't my reminder notifications show which medication is due?
That's intentional. Notifications use generic wording so your health information never appears on your lock screen.
The barcode scanner can't find a product.
The barcode lookup uses Open Food Facts, a community database — some products aren't in it or lack ingredient lists. Switch to Dish photo mode and photograph the ingredient label instead; the app reads it on-device.
How do I share my data with my doctor?
More ▸ Doctor report: pick a date range and sections, generate the PDF, then share it with your own Mail or Messages. The app never sends your data itself.
How do I delete everything?
Settings ▸ Delete all data erases the app's database permanently. Deleting the app does the same. Remember old device backups may still contain earlier data — manage those in your iCloud settings.
